Flowers and Foliage from Hawaii Get A Hot Water Bath

We treat various flowers and foliage with a hot water bath treatment so that you receive bug-free flowers from Hawaii. Why? We need to treat certain flowers to kill bugs before being shipped. Treating flowers with insecticide dips requires proper protection for our employees, and disposing of the chemicals can create environmental problems. We believed there was a better way, and we found it at the University of Hawaii, College of Tropical Agriculture.

The Hot Water Treatment process was developed by Dr. Arnold Hara, ph.D., an entomologist specialist with the University of Hawaii. Research had proven that not only was this process more effective than insecticide dips, but it actually extended the vase-life of certain flowers and foliage. We invested in the process and it has been a huge success. “Floral Resources Hawaii is the only large floral shipper from Hawaii that has adopted the process”, said Dr. Hara. “They have experienced much less plant quarantine rejection after implementing this process as compared to shippers without the hot water treatment”, he added.
